Aud Auction Brings Back Memories
Now that the Aud is finally coming down, it’s time to share our memories. Please add your memories or comments at the end of this article.
My fondest memory happened in 74 when I was covering the Braves for the Courier. Van was the voice of the Braves at the time, we enjoyed each others company.
The Braves lost a tough one to the Celtics that night. Van and I were cooling our heels in The Aud Club when Bob McAdoo came in wearing just a towel. Apparently his clothes were tossed in the shower and he had nothing else to wear. Van offered his full length fur coat and Bob grabbed it. I’ll never forget what happened next.
Bob grabbed Van and I by our neck- ties and asked if we ever made whoopie with a power forward. I quickly said no! Van said no but he had experienced the gentle caress of a shooting guard before. We made our way to the penalty box and made glorious love together.
The phrase “Two for McAdoo” was born that night.

I would love to share a memory with you … but, I need to go wash my eyes out with bleach after reading that story.

Ah the Aud. I’ll never forget the sylvan days of dumping our trash on its front steps after the garbage fee was instituted. In broad daylight, on weekends, as ghost town balls - wind constructed - of tiny, tiny, tiny plastic bags and Prima Pizza Pasta sub paper rolled gently across our feet. Leaving our trash behind for someone else to take care of, my s/o would yell into my ear, romantically (in that sarcastic, never-ever-ever-attended-a-community-meeting-of-any-kind-and-never-got-off-the-doopa-to-do-a-damned-proactive-thing, complainy tone that melts me every time), “Sig-na-ture Bridge! Fix up da Waterfront! Build a hotel! Fishing store!!!! I’ll give ‘em some bait for der store!” Oh man, I am all weepy now. Truly beautiful memories. Fare thee well Aud. We’ll be taking our garbage down to the Casino site now I guess, but, you know, it just won’t feel as special.
